On March 2, at approximately 3:30 p.m., 1 District – St. Catharines uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service arrested a fourth suspect in this incident.
An 18-year-old man from St. Catharines was arrested without incident and has been charged with the following twelve (12) offences:
- Kidnapping – Contrary to Section 279(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
- Use of Firearm During the Commission of an Offence – Contrary to Section 85(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
- Attempt to Commit and Indictable Offence (Kidnapping) – Contrary to Section 463(a) of the Criminal Code
- Use of Firearm while Attempting to Commit Offence – Contrary to Section 85(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
- Careless Use of a Firearm – Contrary to Section 86(1) of the Criminal Code
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle – Contrary to Section 94(1) of the Criminal Code
- Possession of a Firearm without Holding Authorization – Contrary to Section 91(1) of the Criminal Code
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose – Contrary to Section 88(1) of the Criminal Code
- Assault with a Weapon – Contrary to Section 267(a) of the Criminal Code (2 Counts)
- Pointing a Firearm – Contrary to Section 87(1) of the Criminal Code (2 Counts)
Due to the associations of all the accused parties, the identity of the accused male is not being disclosed as doing so may lead to the identity of the two younger accused parties in this incident. The accused has been held in custody pending a video bail hearing scheduled to take place on March 3 at Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
Welland Detectives continue to investigate this matter and the investigation remains ongoing. The fourth suspect arrested today was the remaining outstanding suspect from the original reported incident. All parties believed to be responsible for original incident have been arrested. Detectives maintain that this was a targeted incident with no injuries to anyone involved. There is no threat to public safety.
