Teen charged after over $20,000 stolen from Niagara-on-the-lake outlet mall

On Dec. 24, 2020, 2 District uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) began a commercial break and enter investigation in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Officers were called to the Niagara Outlet mall after the Moose Knuckles store was broken into overnight. In excess of $20,000 in merchandise was stolen. Damage to the store was estimated at $8000.

Detectives with the 2 District Street Crime Unit took over the investigation.  During the course of the investigation detectives found that some of the stolen merchandise was for sale  on Kijiji.

The subsequent investigation led detectives to a home in the area of Sandmere Avenue and Glenmanor Drive in Brampton.

On Jan. 5, 2021, detectives arrested a 15-year-old male from Brampton. He has been charged with the criminal offences of:

  • Break and enter commit theft section 348(1)(b)CC
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 Section 355(b)CC
  • Trafficking property obtained by crime Section 355.2 CC (two counts)

The male was held in custody in order to attend at video bail hearing at the Robert S. K. Welch Court in St. Catharines on Jan. 6, 2021.

The Youth Criminal Justice Act of Canada prohibits the NRPS from identifying the male.

The investigation into the break and enter remains ongoing by detectives as there is grounds to believe more suspects were involved in this incident.
