Suspect arrested in Port Colborne jewelry store break and enter

Police responded after a 911 call alerted them to the early-morning break and enter

On March 29, 2023, at 1:05 a.m. the Communications Unit of the Niagara Regional Police Service received a 911 emergency call from a witness who was observing a break and enter in progress at a jewelry store located on West Street between Clarence Street and Charlotte Street, in the City of Port Colborne.

Information provided was that the suspect had arrived in an older model green Dodge Caravan and successfully broke the front glass window, allowing entry into the commercial business. The suspect obtained items of an undisclosed value before proceeding to flee the scene in the Dodge Caravan.

Uniform patrol officers assigned to 6 District (Port Colborne/Wainfleet) were immediately notified and began converging into the area. The suspect vehicle was located approximately 2 km away on 3rd Avenue near Killaly Street West, in the City of Port Colborne. The suspect was arrested, and all stolen property was recovered and returned to the owner of the business.

Jamie Edward Leggett (49 years) of Port Colborne is charged with the following Criminal Code offence:

  • Break enter and commit place other than dwelling

Leggett was released from custody on a Form 10 Undertaking.  He is scheduled to attend the Welland Courthouse located at 102 East Main Street in the City of Welland on June 23, 2023.
