Staff threatened with knife during St. Catharines armed robbery

Police hope to identify a suspect in an armed robbery that occurred in St. Catharines on Jan. 14, 2024

On Jan. 14, 2024 at approximately 8:50 a.m., 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service attended Avondale located at 80 Pelham Road in the City of St. Catharines regarding an alarm call for service.

Investigation revealed that a male had just entered the store brandished a knife toward an employee and stole an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing the area. The suspect was last seen on foot, Westbound on Cumming Street toward Rykert Street. The K9 Unit with the Niagara Regional Police Service attended the area, however, had negative results in locating the suspect.

The suspect is described as:
    •    Male
    •    Black
    •    20-35 years
    •    Slim/slender
    •    6 feet tall
    •    Wearing a long dark grey/black winter parka down to his knees with the hood up, black sweatpants and black shoes and green gloves

Detectives with 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) have taken carriage of the investigation.
