A man fired multiple shots at the front of a home in Beamsville on Saturday night, striking the house and an adjacent car, but the home's occupants asleep inside were uninjured, according to police.

Niagara Regional Police say the shots were fired at a house on Central Avenue between John Street and Jackson Street.

Police say a white Hyundai Santa Fe SUV had driven by the home then came back.

A lone male exited the driver’s side of the vehicle at around 11:35 p.m. and approached the front of the house.

He fired approximately eight shots at the house from a handgun, police said in a news release.

The house and an adjacent parked car were struck by the gunfire.

Minutes later the gunman fled in the SUV northbound on Central Avenue at a high rate of speed.

The Hyundai was later recovered in Hamilton. It had been stolen and driven to Lincoln within an hour of the shooting.

Police said they have reason to believe this is an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

The suspect is described as:

  • Black male
  • Skinny build
  • Approximately 25 years old
  • Black braided hair
  • Dark hooded sweatshirt
