Second suspect arrested in Welland BB gun investigation

For the past nine months, the Welland Detective Office of the Niagara Regional Police Service has been actively investigating an incident involving a group of youths being shot at with a BB gun from a moving van in the City of Welland.

On the evening of Aug. 25, 2020, police were called to the area of Colbeck Drive and Stormm Court in the City of Welland, Ont.

Investigation revealed that five youths were walking northbound on Colbeck Drive when a van with three occupants pulled up beside the youths. One of the occupants of the van opened fire on the group with a BB gun, also known as a pellet gun.

One of the youths was struck with a BB but was not injured. The rear window of a nearby unrelated parked car was shattered.

On Sunday June 6, 2021, Issac Christopher Larch (20 years old) of Welland was arrested and charged with:
    •    Discharge firearm (airgun) with intent
    •    Point firearm
    •    Assault with a weapon
    •    Mischief under $5,000

Larch has been held in custody and will appear virtually in bail court on June 7, 2021.

In September of 2020, detectives arrested and charged Justin Maurice (19 years old) of Welland with the criminal offence of:
    •    Accessory after the fact to an indictable offence

There are no outstanding suspects in this investigation.
