Second suspect arrested in St. Catharines armed robbery investigation

Police say uniform officers were able to identify the male suspect and determined that the suspect was operating a stolen vehicle with stolen license plates

On Dec. 15, 2020, 2 District uniform officers attended a Variety Store in the area of Culp Street and Drummond Road, in the City of Niagara Falls, in regards to a theft call.

Investigation revealed that a male had entered the store and took items, before leaving the store without making any attempts to pay for the items. The male proceeded to flee in a vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, uniform officers were able to identify the male suspect and determined that the suspect was operating a stolen vehicle with stolen license plates.

On Dec. 15, 2020, due to proactive police work by uniform officers in Niagara Falls, the suspect was arrested in the area of Ottawa Avenue and Mcrae Street, with the assistance of 2 district (Niagara Falls) detectives, the Emergency Task Unit, Marine Unit and the K9 unit with the Niagara Regional Police Service.

Austin Horner, 24 years old, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with the following offences of:

  • Theft under $5,000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000 (2 Counts)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $,5000
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

December 8, 2020

  • Robbery (Firearm)
  • Disguised with Intent
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Carry Concealed Weapon
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • Disobey Court Order

Horner is being held in custody, pending a bail hearing that is expected to take place on December 16, 2020, at the Robert S.K Welch Courthouse, located at 59 Church Street, in the City of St. Catharines.
