Resident in critical but stable condition following Welland apartment fire

On March 31, 2021 at approximately 6:50 a.m., 3 District (Welland) uniform officers, the Welland Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services, were dispatched to a multi-unit residence in the area of Denistoun Street and Lincoln Street in the City of Welland in regards to a fire.

Investigation revealed that a fire was in one of the units at this location. The Welland Fire Department recused a 55-year-old male from the fire. He was transported to an out of region hospital and is in critical but stable condition.

Several residents of the multi-unit complex were displaced due to heavy smoke. Arrangements were made for Welland transit to provide a bus as temporary shelter from the incoming weather.

The matter remains under investigation by detectives from 3 District and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office.
