Police seize $45K worth of drugs in Welland investigation

Items seized include fentanyl, cocaine, crystal meth, hydromorphone, oxycodone and $3,000 in Canadian currency

Since December of 2020, detectives with the 3 District (Welland) Street Crime Unit, with the Niagara Regional Police Service,  have been investigating the sales of illegal drugs, in the City of Welland.

As a result of the investigation, detectives were able to identify a male responsible for the sale of illegal drugs.

On Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2021, two suspects were arrested.

Subsequently, detectives executed a search warrant in the area of Niagara Street and Division Street, in the City of Welland, and seized 122 grams of fentanyl, 25 grams of cocaine, 55 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 35 hydromorphone capsules, 76 oxycodone tablets, and $3,000 in Canadian currency believed to be the proceeds of their drug sales. In total, the amount of drugs seized is estimated to be at a street value of $45,000.

Younis A. Badri (45 years old) of Welland, was arrested and charged with the following offences of: 

  • Possession of a schedule I substance, to wit fentanyl, for the purpose of trafficking  
  • Possession of a schedule I substance, to wit cocaine, for the purpose of trafficking  
  • Possession of a schedule I substance, to wit crystal methamphetamine, for the purpose of trafficking  
  • Possession of a schedule I substance, to wit hydromorphone, for the purpose of trafficking  
  • Possession of a schedule I substance, to wit oxycodone, for the purpose of trafficking  
  • Possession of proceeds obtained by crime under $5000  
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon, to wit; a switchblade style knife

Badri was held in custody and was released on a Form 10 - Undertaking with a future court date.

Abdelkarim Badri (20 years old) of Welland, was arrested and charged with the following offences of: 

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking sched 1-fentanyl  
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking sched 1-cocaine 
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking sched 1-methamphetamine 
  • Possession of proceeds obtained by crime under 5000

Badri was held in custody and was released on a Form 10 - Undertaking with a future court date.
