Police searching for suspect in St. Catharines assault

On July 22, 2022, at approximately 6 p.m. 1 District St. Catharines / Thorold uniform officers responded to a report of a physical assault that had just occurred in the northeast corner of St. Catharines.

Officers attended Malcolmson Eco Park on Lakeshore Road near Niagara Street in St. Catharines. Officers met with a female victim in her 40s. The victim sustained minor injuries that were assessed on scene by Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics.

The initial investigation determined the victim had been walking on a trail when she was approached by an unknown man. The man made repeated religious utterances and then threatened the victim. The male suspect threw the victim to the ground. The victim then ran into the bushes. The suspect then left the area on foot into the trails and other areas of the bush. The suspect is not known to the victim.

Multiple officers attended the area but were not able to locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as:

  • Latino male 35-40 years old
  • 5-3 tall, 175lbs.
  • brown hair short on the sides long on the top brown hair
  • definitive cheek bones
  • dark green, brown colour khaki shorts
  • short sleeve dress shirt with green pin stripe
  • backpack

The identity of the suspect is unknown.
