Police investigate bank robbery at St. Catharines TD

Police say when the suspect exited the bank, an anti-robbery red dye pack that was in with the stolen money exploded

On April 12, 2021, at approximately 9:30am, 1 District – St. Catharines uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of a bank robbery in the north end of St. Catharines.

Officers attended the TD Canada Trust Bank at 364 Scott Street in St. Catharines. The initial investigation determined that an unknown male suspect had entered the bank.  The suspect threatened violence to a clerk if he was not given money. The suspect received an undisclosed amount of Canadian money and ran from the bank.

When the suspect exited the bank, an anti-robbery red dye pack that was amongst the stolen money exploded. The exploded dye pack was found near the bank. 

A NRPS K9 Unit attended the area but was unable to locate the suspect.

No one in the bank was physically injured.

The suspect is described as:

  • Black male
  • Slim build
  • 5'7 feet all
  • 20-30 years of age

Wearing:

  • Black face covering
  • Black hooded sweatshirt
  • Black pants
  • Black socks and flip flops

The public should be on the lookout for the suspect who may have red dyed hands or red dye on his skin. Any merchants who discover someone trying to use red dye covered money should contact the police.

This robbery remains under investigation by detectives from the 1 District detective office. Anyone with information is asked to call 905-688-4111, extension 1009964.
