Pedestrian suffers life-threatening injuries after struck by car in Welland

The incident occurred around 5:15 a.m. this morning; investigation is ongoing

On Sunday, Aug. 29, 2021, at approximately 5:15 a.m., 3 District (Welland) uniform officers were called to the area of Crowland Avenue and Welland Street, in the City of Welland in response to a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.

Investigation revealed that an officer was attending a call for service when he witnessed a pedestrian in the middle of the southbound lane on Crowland Avenue. As a result, the officer stopped his vehicle and activated his emergency lights to attend to the pedestrian. Subsequently a 55-year-old male was operating a black Honda Civic southbound on Crownland Avenue. Prior to the officer being able to help the pedestrian, the pedestrian was struck by the vehicle.

The 33-year-old male pedestrian was transported to a hospital with life threatening injuries.

The driver did not sustain any physical injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing by detectives with the Collision Reconstruction Unit.
