Pedestrian struck by vehicle stabs driver after altercation, police say

Six-year-old boy and his father suffered minor injuries, driver was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

On Thursday, June 17, 2021, at approximately 7:35 p.m., 1 District (St. Catharines) uniform officers attended the area of Ontario Street and Scott Street, for a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle and a subsequent stabbing.

Investigation revealed that a 46-year-old male and his six-year-old son were walking eastbound in the crosswalk at the intersection of Scott Street West and Ontario Street when the two were struck by a 2009 Black Toyota pickup truck.

The driver of the truck, a 32-year-old male exited the driver's seat and approached the father and his son. As the driver approached them, an altercation ensued and the driver was then stabbed. The driver, walked away from the father and approached witnesses where he sought first aid attention.

As a result of the incident, the six-year-old boy and father suffered minor physical injuries.

The 32-year-old male was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Ryan Garrett (45 years old) of St. Catharines, was arrested and charged with the following offence of:

  • Aggravated assault

Garrett was held in custody pending a bail hearing that is expected to take place on June 18, 2021.
