Police helped free this deer that became stuck between fences on Ruby Street in Midland.

A deer can thank two OPP officers for its good fortune entering the new year.

On Tuesday morning, the Southern Georgian Bay OPP detachment received a report of a deer trapped between two fences in Midland, Ont. They had also received a report of four deer running in a nearby area.

Two officers, constables G. Cerilli and C. Lamacchia, were soon dispatched to the home and figured out a way to free the scared animal to eventually send it on its way.

"Thinking fast and some quick footwork resulted in 'Bambi' getting back to the herd safely," Const. Dave Hobson said, noting the homeowner initially called police seeking assistance.

After arriving at the scene, the video posted to Twitter shows the two officers jiggling the cervid's hind legs back and forth in an effort to free it from between the two wooden fences. They eventually succeed and the deer disappears from view.

Hobson said since posting video of the incident on social media shortly after noon on Friday, it has turned into a bit of a local sensation.

"It's getting a lot of wind under its wings," he told MidlandToday, a sister site of ThoroldToday.
