Officers still investigating June 21 fatal collision in Niagara Falls

The investigation into this matter remains ongoing by detectives from the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit. 

The ongoing investigation has learned that there may be further witnesses to this incident or the events leading up to the collision.

Update – June 21, 2020 

On Sunday June 21, 2020, 2 District (Niagara Falls) uniform officers arrested and charged a 23-year-old male in connection with the fatal collision on Saturday June 20, 2020.

John Alexander Gawronski of the City of Niagara Falls is facing the following charges:

  • Dangerous operation / causing death, contrary to section 320.13(3) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Fail to stop at the scene of accident / fatality, contrary to section 320.16(3) of the Criminal Code of Canada

Gawronski is currently being held in custody pending a video bail hearing on Sunday June 21, 2020 at the John Sopinka Courthouse in the City of Hamilton.

Original release – June 21, 2020

At approximately 8:40 p.m. on Saturday June 20, 2020, 2 District (Niagara Falls) uniform officers were called to the area of Lundy’s Lane and Beaverdams Road in the City of Niagara Falls following the report of a collision.

When officers arrived, an adult female was transported to an out of town hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

Investigation has revealed that the female was stuck by a vehicle which then fled the scene prior to officer’s arrival.

The vehicle a 2013 black Mercedes, has since been located by detectives who continue to search for the driver.

This incident remains under investigation by detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit.  Anyone with information, or who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact (905) 688-4111 ext. 5400
