Niagara resident dies in snowmobile crash in northern Ontario

OPASATIKA TOWNSHIP, Northern Ontario – Police say a young person from the Niagara region died in snowmobile accident yesterday in northern Ontario.

The Ontario Provincial Police say that shortly after 3 p.m., the James Bay OPP and Timmins Ambulance EMS responded to a single snowmobile collision on trail L 123 in Opasatika Township near Kapuskasing.

James Bay OPP officers were already conducting snowmobile patrols in the area and were able to respond quickly, however a 20-year-old from Fenwick was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said in a news release.

The OPP's Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team and the Office of the Chief Corner for Ontario - Ontario Forensic Pathology Service are assisting with the investigation.
