Niagara Falls man charged with construction fraud

Police say the individual was accepting construction jobs, specifically concrete work, and then taking money for services that he would not provide

In August of 2023, the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS), Central Fraud Unit began an investigation involving several construction frauds taking place in the Niagara Region.

Detectives determined that the offences involved a man accepting construction jobs, specifically concrete work, and then taking money for services that he would not provide.

On April 12, 2024, Ernesto Miguel Sarabando (49 years), of Niagara Falls was arrested and charged with the Criminal Code offences of:

  • fraud over $5,000 (four counts)
  • fraud under $5,000 (two counts)
  • fail to comply with release order (three counts)

Sarabando was held in custody for a bail hearing on April 12, 2024. He was initially remanded into custody but has since been released with a future court date of May 24, 2024, at the Welland Courthouse.

Detectives have identified at least eight victims, as a result of their investigation. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives believe there are more victims. Anyone with information can contact detectives by email.
