Man accused of stealing over $5K worth of tools from Niagara Falls storage container

Police say the items belonged to a business

On Tuesday, June 15, 2021, officers were notified of a break and enter that occurred on June 14, 2021,  in the area of Dorchester Road and Lundy’s Lane, in the City of Niagara Falls.

Investigation revealed that a male had entered a building and entered a storage container where several tools were present. The male proceeded to steal several tools belonging to the business. In excess of $5000 worth of tools were stolen.

Detectives with the Niagara Falls Street Crime unit, took carriage of the investigation and as a result, detectives were able to identify the male suspect.

On June 17, 2021, the suspect was arrested for an unrelated matter.

During the arrest, suspect was found in possession of the tools stolen from the break and enter.

Shawn Mayhew (42 years old) of Niagara Falls, was arrested and charged with the following offences of:

  • Break and enter and commit place other than dwelling
  • Possess property obtained by crime for trafficking exceeding $5000
  • Theft under $5000
  • Break and enter and commit dwelling

Mayhew was held in custody pending a bail hearing that is expected to take place on June 18, 2021.

Detectives were able to return a good portion of the tools to the owner.
