Knife pulled in Niagara Falls armed robbery attempt: Police

Convenience store employee activated an alarm which caused the suspect to flee with only a frozen drink valued at $2.45

On Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021 at approximately 11:29 p.m., 2 District – Niagara Falls uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of an armed robbery at a convenience store in Niagara Falls.

Officers responded to the area of Dorchester Road at Thorold Stone Road. The initial investigation determined that a lone male had entered the store and obtained a frozen drink and then went to the counter. [It is alleged that] the suspect then pulled a knife and threatened the lone employee, demanding money from the till. The employee activated an alarm which caused the male suspect to flee the store with only the frozen drink valued at $2.45. The employee was not physically injured.

Officers were not able to locate the suspect in the area. The investigation was assigned to detectives from the 2 District detective office.

On Nov. 15, 2021 at approximately 2:20 p.m., a 2 District detective was in the area of Lundy’s Lane at Drummond Road on an unrelated matter. The detective recognized the robbery suspect from security camera footage, as the suspect was still in the same clothing. The male robbery suspect was arrested by the detective. 

A search of the male subsequent to his arrest found stolen items from two nearby stores. The items concealed under his coat were valued at approximately $110.

Mark James Adair (27 years old) of no fixed address has been arrested and charged with the criminal offences of:
    •    robbery
    •    theft under $5,000 (two counts)

Adair was held in custody for a bail hearing. He will appear via video link to the Robert S. K. Welch Court House in St. Catharines on Nov. 16, 2021.
