Four arrested after stabbing in St. Catharines

Three of the individuals are facing assault charges while all four are facing drug charges after a search warrant was executed at a St. Catharines address

On Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024, at approximately 1:20 p.m., the 1 District Street Crime Unit with the Niagara Regional Police Service were conducting crime patrol when they observed a stabbing occur in the area of Court Street and North Street in the City of St Catharines.

Investigation revealed that three male suspects had entered into a verbal dispute with an 18-year-old male when the dispute escalated into violence and the male suspects physically assaulted and stabbed the victim. Detectives immediately intervened and placed the suspects under arrest.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and sustained minor physical injuries.

On Jan. 30, 2024, detectives executed a warrant in the area of Catharine Street and Francis Street in the City of St Catharines and seized 2oz of suspected fentanyl. The total street value is: $12,000.

Ju-ron S. Fertilien (23 years old) of St. Catharines was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • assault
  • assault with a weapon
  • possession of a weapon
  • possession for purpose of trafficking

A 16-year-old male from St. Catharines was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • assault
  • assault with a weapon
  • possession of a weapon
  • obstruct peace officer
  • possession for purpose of trafficking

A 17-year-old male from Thorold was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • assault
  • possession for purpose of trafficking

Heather Twinn (49 years old) of St. Catharines was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • possession for purpose of trafficking

All three males were held in custody pending a video bail hearing that is expected to take place on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024, at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church Street in the City of St. Catharines.

Twinn was released on a Form 10-Undertaking with a future court date.

The Youth Criminal Justice Act of Canada prohibits the Niagara Region Police Service from releasing the identity of the accused young persons in this matter.
