Fort Erie driver accused of speeding past elementary school

30-year-old clocked at 113 km/h in a 60 km/h zone, police say

On Monday, March 20, 2023 at approximately 3:25 p.m., a 5 District – Fort Erie uniform officer from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) was conducting speed enforcement on Netherby Road near Stevensville Road in the Town of Fort Erie.

The officer was located in front of an elementary school. The officer observed a white Chevrolet Silverado travelling east bound on Netherby Road at a high rate of speed. The Silverado approached the traffic-controlled intersection, swerved around a vehicle that was turning south (right) and continued straight through the intersection still at a high rate of speed. The officer confirmed the speed with a radar gun (speed measuring device) that the Silverado was travelling 113 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone while passing the elementary school.

The officer conducted a traffic stop. The 30-year-old male driver from Fort Erie was issued provincial offence notices for:
    •    Speeding -113 km/h in a 60 km/h zone contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act
    •    Drive motor vehicle perform stunt contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

The driver's license of the driver was seized. He was served a driving suspension notice for 30 days and the driver’s vehicle was seized and towed for 14 days. At the time of the offence there were multiple school buses and parents lined up along the shoulder of the road waiting to pick up children from the school.
