Fentanyl, crack seized during St. Catharines drug bust

Detectives from the Niagara Regional Police Service 1 District – St. Catharines Street Crime Unit have been investigating the sale of illegal fentanyl and cocaine.  The investigation has been ongoing since the summer of 2021.

Detectives were able to identify a male suspect. On Dec. 21, 2021, the suspect was arrested for drug related offences. Detectives subsequently sought search warrants for a room at a hotel located in the area of Dunlop Drive and Carlton Street in St. Catharines and for a residential apartment located on Queenston Street near Geneva Street.

As a result of the investigation detectives have seized:
    •    32.8 grams of fentanyl
    •    8.8 grams of crack cocaine

The estimated street value of the seized drugs is $16,000.

Detectives also seized $1,710 CDN as suspected proceeds of crime.

Anthony Bancroft Clarke (32 years) of Toronto has been arrested and charged with the criminal offences of:
    •    possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl) – Sec. 5(2) CDSA
    •    possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine) – Sec. 5(2) CDSA
    •    possession of proceeds obtained by crime under $5,000 - Sec 355(b) CC
    •    fail to comply with release order – Sec. 145(5)(a) CC

Clarke was held in custody to attend a video bail hearing on Dec. 22, 2021, to the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
