Female passenger, 81, killed in collision in Welland

Police say a woman in her 80s has died after a two-car crash around mid-day in Welland.

Niagara Regional Police say at around noon, officers responded to the area of Prince Charles Drive and Fitch Street for a collision.

Police say an 83-year-old male was operating a white Chevrolet Trax with an 81-year-old female passenger.

The Trax attempted to make a right turn onto Prince Charles Drive when a white Chevrolet Silvarado driven by a a 55-year-old male that was travelling north on Prince Charles Drive collided with the Trax, police said in a news release.

The Trax then hit a pole. 

The passenger in the Trax was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Trax was airlifted to an out-of-town hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

The driver of the Silvarado suffered minor physical injuries.
