Early-morning altercation leads to serious injury for one man, aggravated assault charge for another

Police say the suspect was arrested a few hours later at his home

On Nov. 24, 2021, at approximately 1:43 a.m., 2 District – Niagara Falls uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service responded for a report of a stabbing in Niagara Falls.

Officers attended the area of Clifton Hill near Victoria Avenue and located a male victim in his 20s, suffering a serious laceration from a knife. Paramedics from Niagara Emergency Medical Services treated the victim at the scene. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a serious injury.

The investigation by uniform officers determined that the victim had been walking on the sidewalk on Clifton Hill when he stopped to talk to a man and women.  During the course of the conversation the man cut the victim with a knife and fled the area.

Uniform officers were able to locate the knife on a nearby street. The suspect was identified by officers and at 5 a.m. he was arrested at his home in the area of Buchanan Avenue and Spring Street in Niagara Falls.

Shawn Leonard Isaacs (46 years) of Niagara Falls has been arrested and charged with the criminal offence of:

  • Aggravated assault

Leonard was held in custody in order to attend a video bail hearing at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on Nov. 24, 2021.
