Regional Road 27 is closed for a fatal collision investigation that occurred shortly before 1 a.m. on April 19, 2024

On April 19, 2024 at 12:48 a.m., 6 District (Port Colborne / Wainfleet) uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded with emergency services personnel for a serious single vehicle roll-over over in Wainfleet.

Officers attended the scene on Regional Road 27 near Hewitt Road and found a red Dodge Ram pickup truck off the roadway in a ditch. The Dodge appeared to have rolled over and was heavily damaged. The male driver of the Dodge was thrown from the vehicle and found to be in critical condition. Niagara Emergency Medical Service paramedics and Wainfleet Fire Service personnel attended to the male, however, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no other occupants of the Dodge.

Detectives from the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit have been assigned to the incident. Their investigation is being assisted by detectives from the NRPS Forensic Service Unit. The circumstances of the collision remain under investigation.

Regional Road 27 between Hewitt Road and Tunacliffe Road North is closed for the investigation. The closures are anticipated to be in place for the morning. Motorists are requested to find alternative routes.
