Arrest made in Niagara on the Lake police shooting incident

Update 1 – Jan. 6, 2021

The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) continue to investigate the circumstances of this incident.

On Jan. 5, 2021, NRPS officers arrested a female at the Line 3 and the Niagara River Parkway scene. 

As a result of the parallel investigation being conducted by NRPS detectives, Lindsey Archer (29 years old) of Dundas Ont. has been arrested and charged with the criminal offences of:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Obstruct Police
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance

Archer was held in custody in order to attend a video bail hearing at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on Jan. 6, 2021.

Two Niagara Regional Police Officers were injured at the Niagara on the Lake scene.

The officers were treated at a local hospital for minor injuries and have since been released.

The male officers (11 years and 19 years of service) are both assigned to uniform patrol with our 2 District – Niagara Falls office.

Original Release – Jan. 5, 2021

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, 2 District (Niagara Falls/Niagara on the Lake) uniform officers were called to the area of Lundy’s Lane and Corwin Ave following the report of a suspected impaired driver.

At approximately 2:22 p.m., the vehicle was located in the area of Line 3 and the Niagara River Parkway in the Town of Niagara on the Lake. There was an interaction with an adult male and he was subsequently shot by police.

The male was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries where he was pronounced deceased.

The Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked their mandate.

There are road closures in the area of Line 3 at Concession 1, as well as the Niagara Parkway closed at Line 2 and Line 4.

The incident is also being investigated by detectives from the NRPS.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
