In March 2022, Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) detectives assigned to 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) commenced an investigation into parked vehicles being intentionally damaged. Specifically, windshields of parked vehicles were reported to have been struck with an object, likely a hammer. The investigation has resulted in a suspect being identified.
On March 18, 2022, Gerardo Miciano (56 years) of St. Catharines was arrested and charged with:
• mischief, contrary to section 430(4) of the Criminal Code of Canada (two counts)
Miciano was held for a bail hearing on March 18, 2022 and was released from custody on a release order issued by a Justice of Peace.
Detectives have reason to believe more vehicles have been damaged, particularly in the east end of St. Catharines. Any member of the public who has had their vehicle damaged and has not yet reported the offence is encouraged to do so. In addition to contacting our Communications Unit at 905-688-4111, members of the public may wish to utilize our online reporting system by visiting our website.
Furthermore, detectives are requesting residents and businesses in the east end of St. Catharines with closed circuit security cameras, doorbell video cameras, or dash cameras review their footage for suspicious activity between Feb. 28, 2022, and March 17, 2022.
