Accused faces numerous trafficking, weapons charges following St. Catharines bust

During April of 2021, detectives with the St. Catharines Street Crime Unit with the assistance from the Opiod Education Unit and the Enforcement Unit, with the Niagara Regional Police Service commenced an investigation into the sale of Fentanyl within the City of St. Catharines.

As a result of the investigation, detectives were able to identify a male suspect [allegedly] responsible for the sale of illegal drugs.

On April 20, 2021, the suspect was arrested in the area of Greenlaw Place and Welland Avenue in the City of St. Catharines.

Subsequently, detectives with the assistance of the Emergency Task Unit, with the Niagara Regional Police Service, executed a search warrant in the area of Niagara Street and Mill Street in the City of St. Catharines. As a result, detectives seized 47.2 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 5.5 grams of cocaine, a 14.3 grams of fentanyl, 13 dilaudid pills, 22 oxycodone pills, $5,051 believed to be the proceeds of the sale of drugs, a black Sig Sauer 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, 86 12 gauge shotgun shells, a butterfly knife, and a 12 gauge sawed off shot gun. The street value of the drugs is estimated to be approximately $10,200.

Alan Eggleton (34 years old) of St. Catherines, was arrested and charged with the following offences of:
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance I (fentanyl) for the purpose of trafficking
    •    Possession of proceeds obtained by crime over $5,000
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance (crystal methamphetamine) for the purpose of trafficking
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance (cocaine) for the purpose of trafficking
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance (dilaudid) for the purpose of trafficking
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance (oxycodone) for the purpose of trafficking
    •    Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
    •    Unauthorized possession of firearm (two counts)
    •    Unauthorized possession of prohibited weapon or restricted weapon (two counts)
    •    Careless storage of a firearm (two counts)
    •    Careless storage of ammunition
    •    Firearm: knowledge of unauthorized possession (two counts)
    •    Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon (butterfly knife)
    •    Possession contrary to order (three counts)

Eggleton was held in custody and is expected to appear at court on April 21, 2021.
