On Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020, the Niagara Regional Police conducted R.I.D.E. checkpoints within the Town of Fort Erie and the city of St. Catharines between the hours of 2 p.m. and 10 p.m.

During the checkpoint, police officers stopped approximately 800 vehicles and conducted 18 roadside tests.

As a result of the RIDE check one person was arrested and charged with driving while disqualified.  Another eleven Provincial Offence Notices were issued for offences including driving under suspension and using improper plates on a vehicle.

The Niagara Regional Police Service remain committed to reducing impaired driving offences through education and the apprehension of offenders through enforcement programs like R.I.D.E. Impaired driving is still the leading criminal offence causing deaths in Canada.

This initiative has been made possible, in part, as a result of grant funding from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services as part of the Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) program.
