November 22, 1930 – October 14, 2023

Passed away after a long battle with kidney disease. Missed dearly by his daughter Barbara, two cats, and numerous dear friends and family. Predeceased by his wife Jean (née Barnes), parents Thomas and Annie, and siblings Muriel and Douglas. Derek was born in England, serving in the London Police and British Army prior to moving to Canada. He explored his beloved chosen homeland from coast to coast, eventually settling in St. Catharines to raise a family. Derek worked at several companies, including the St. Catharines Transit Commission, from which he retired in 1995.

Derek was a devoted husband and father, who encouraged a strong love of science, knowledge, and exploration. He had a wide range of interests, from stamps to rocks and minerals, shooting, trains, model railroading, music, nature, motorbikes, cars, pets of all types, and coffee. He was a devoted reader of 'Herman' and 'Calvin and Hobbes' comics and valued a good sense of humour. Derek was actively involved in several local clubs, and always looked for ways to make people smile.

A special thank you to the Palliative Care Team, Niagara Hospital, Right at Home Canada, CarePartners, and Hospice Niagara for all of their support during Derek's journey.

In honouring Derek's wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial dinner will take place at his favorite restaurant, The Feathery Pub, this Friday evening 5:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Hospice Niagara https://donate.mytributegift.org/Service?cid=69158469ada5cf57dab22ae81fbb39e5768d7a7280f87805651dafab9c9278fe or the Humane Society of Greater Niagara would be appreciated.
