Adam Michael Schreier, 98, of Fonthill, passed away peacefully at the Welland Hospital on November 15th 2023, days before his 99th birthday.

Beloved husband of the late Theresa (2005), predeceased by his brother Frank who died during World War II, his sister Anna (2005) of Ridgeville, ON, his devoted niece Henrietta (Archie). Adam is survived by his son Ryan (Barbara), Grand Daughters Renata (Andrew) and Rebecca (Aaron) and Great Granddaughters Olivia and Vivian, Nephew Archie, Great Nephew Craig and family in Germany and United States, and his dear friend Mariella Buccioni, Chile.

Adam was born on November 18th 1924 to Adam and Eva in Hungary. Growing up on a farm, he was no stranger to hard work and dedication built the foundation of who he was to become. Displaced to West Germany in 1948 where he worked for the American Occupational Headquarters and then worked in France for 2 years. Upon returning to Germany he married Theresa nee Geisel in 1950 and finally emigrating to Canada in 1951.

In 1953 he founded Adam Construction, building many schools and homes throughout the Niagara Peninsula. From 1959 to 1961 with his wife and son they moved to Sarasota, Florida where his company built additional homes. He then returned to Fonthill, purchased the old canning factory and remodeled it into apartments. After retiring from construction in 1975 he continued to manage his apartment buildings.

In 1988 he began construction on his dream home where he resided for the remainder of his life. He had a love of chess, music and was fluent in several languages. He also had a passion for world travel. He was a proud founder and member of Club Rheingold in Port Colborne.

Family and friends will be received at the PELHAM FUNERAL HOME, 1292 Pelham Street, Fonthill on Thursday November 23rd from 11am - 2pm. The funeral service to honour Adam's life will be held at the funeral home beginning at 2 pm. Entombment will follow at Pleasantview Mausoleum.  Those that wish to view the service via livestream may do so by going to the Pelham Funeral Home's Facebook page at 2pm.
