monica-1-2

Monica died on April 1, 2023, in her 71st year. She leaves behind her husband David Thomas, daughters Jennifer (Nick) and Becky (Mike) as well as three adored grandchildren, Maya, Oscar and Alex, who always made her laugh. Monica is also survived by her siblings Helen, Michael and Nicole, their families, and many cousins. Monica was born in Toronto. She lived all over Canada before meeting Dave in 1988 and joining him and the girls in St. Catharines. Monica attended Carleton University and the University of Windsor, where she earned a Masters in Communications. She went on to teach Communications at the University of Windsor, St. Clair College, and Niagara College, which she really enjoyed. Monica lived with multiple sclerosis for much of her adult life but didn’t let that stop her from travelling often to visit family and friends in BC, Alberta, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, and all over Ontario. She and Dave adventured to England, Holland, France and Italy together, and she especially enjoyed trips to Savannah Georgia with her great friends Joe and Stella White. Monica loved to people-watch, and to share long drawn-out “Dutch Goodbyes” at the end of every visit. Monica was an enthusiastic member of the Niagara Chapter of the International Wine & Food Society. She loved to share meals with friends and watch the sun go down at the Dalhousie Yacht Club while enjoying a margarita. Monica was on the board of the local MS Society, and a committed fundraiser and participant in the annual MS Walk. Monica’s smile, constant optimism, and terrific sense of humour endeared her to family and friends. She will be missed.

Cremation has already taken place, arrangements entrusted to Bocchinfuso Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to an informal Celebration of Life for Monica, to be held at the Dalhousie Yacht Club, 74 Lighthouse Road, St. Catharines. 2:00 – 5:00 PM on Saturday, April 29, 2023 (Toasts at 3:00 PM). Donations, if desired, may be made to the United Way Niagara or the MS Society of Canada – Niagara Peninsula Chapter of Hope. Online Condolences may be left at www.Bocchinfusofh.com
