April 20, 1948 – July 27, 2023

Our dear uncle, brother and friend passed away at the St. Catharines Hospital on Thursday, July 27, 2023. He succumbed to a cancer that had made his last few days very challenging. Ted wanted to spend his last days at his home enjoying his garden, friends, the birds, nature, and the passing ships through the Welland Canal. We met his wishes for as long as possible and he was very thankful for that.

Ted had a love of food and wine and every Sunday he would surround his dining table with good friends and family; prepare and share a meal. That was important to him. His meditative passions were woodworking and gardening, and he shared the results of those with everyone around him.

Ted worked for The St. Lawrence Management Corporation (SLSMC) for 22 years as an Electrical Computer-Aided Designer/Inspector. He also taught engineering drafting using the drawing software AutoCAD as a part-time nighttime instructor at Niagara College. Ted retired from the SLSMC at the end of 2010.

Ted’s 18-year public service career started as a City Councilor in 2000, he diligently served three terms before being elected as Mayor of Thorold for two consecutive terms, from 2010 to 2018. During this time Ted dedication to the city allowed him to accomplish what most of us only aspire to.

Ted will be sadly missed by his siblings Alda Brant, Michael Luciani, Fred Luciani, Rosanne Luciani, and Diane Rush, and his many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, godchildren and many, many friends and colleagues. Ted is predeceased by his parents, Angelo and Rosina Luciani, sisters Lucy Murray and Pauline Hickman, brothers Tony Luciani, Ron Luciani and Joe Luciani.

Ted had great stories that we all shared of friendship, politics, travel, and family. On Thursday, August 17th at 11:30 am there will be a celebration of Ted’s life at Memorial Park and the Thorold Seniors Centre (a facility Ted’s leadership brought to fruition as Mayor of Thorold), 8 Carleton St S in Thorold. Everyone is welcome to share in paying tribute to Ted. If you wish to make a donation in Ted’s name, his charity of choice is Sick Kids. Online condolences may be left at www.Bocchinfusofh.com
