We are deeply saddened to announce that our dear father, Bill, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness on November 28, 2022, at 88 years of age.

Raised in St. Catharines, he is predeceased by his parents, Dr. W. Joseph and Mona (Murphy) Loftus, and his sisters; Vera (Quinn), Monica, Margaret (Lee), Claire (Legare) and Anna (O’Brien).

He moved to Toronto, in 1954, to attend The University of Toronto, resulting in a business career spanning pharmaceuticals, computer systems and finance.

In 1960 he married Sandra (nee Barron) and they were married 58 years, and raised three daughters; Kim (Peter), Angy (Stephen) and Karen.  Loving grandfather of Erin (Shane), Devon (Renee), and Chloe; and blessed to be the great-grandfather of his adorable great-grandchildren; Austin, Emma, and baby, Pierce.  Bill also leaves behind many treasured nieces and nephews and their families.

Bill was a sports enthusiast and, in his youth, was on the rowing team in St. Catharines, of which he was proud and spoke fondly about.  When his daughters were young, he was their baseball coach as well as the president for the neighbourhood baseball association.  He also played on the neighbourhood Boarhill Bears baseball team and was a great fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, cheering them on from year to year.

Toronto was home for 48 years and in 2002, he and our mother moved back to St. Catharines.  In retirement he enjoyed re-establishing old childhood friendships and making countless new ones.  As a man of many interests, he enjoyed crosswords and was an avid reader, keeping abreast of politics and business trends.  He loved his poker nights with friends and would wind down listening to his favourite jazz music.

Bill was a lifelong volunteer. In recent years he volunteered for The Fergie Jenkins Foundation, Wellspring, Wheelchair Hockey, Out of the Cold Foundation and was an active member of Probus.

Our father will be dearly missed but we will always cherish our memories with him, his love for us, his easygoing manner, keen wit and wonderful sense of humour.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, 34 Elgin Street, St Catharines.  Following the Mass, please join us for a reception.
