Mary Margaret Johnson (Hickey) 1936 - 2023

With the heaviest of hearts, the family of Mary announces her passing on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at the Welland Hospital, in her 87th year.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Raymond (2004) and her first child Debra (1954), just a few days old. Loving mother of Raymond/Rick Johnson (Nicky), Pam Petrus, nee Johnson (Mike), Cindy Raskob, nee Johnson (John) and Rod Johnson (Lianne). Cherished grandmother of Natasha Nolan (Tyler) & Brad Petrus (Claire); Douglas Johnson & Meaghen Johnson; Brandon, Brianna & Braelyn Johnson, Brittany, Martyna and Sharina Raskob and loving great grandmother to Bradyn & Jaxsyn Nolan & Fynnly Petrus. Dear sister of Carolann Murphy, Jenn Murphy, Margaret Fowler and Jimmy Hickey and predeceased by Bill Hickey, Helen Meadus, Betty Parsons, Frankie Hickey and Alice Hickey, all from St. John’s Newfoundland.

We celebrate the life of a beautiful woman who blessed us all with her life, her wisdom,  charisma, kindness and witty charm. Mary moved here in +/-1955 from St. John’s Newfoundland to begin a new life with her husband Raymond and raise her family here.  Raymond was a Korean war veteran and they settled in the Summerlea subdivision in Welland, ON. Mary was always proud to have lived in the same house all these years until the very end.  She was always a mother first which was her foremost first priority, her children and grandchildren & great grandchildren.  She gave so freely her time, love, guidance and patience to all of us.  Mary also knew how to have a good time, sing Newfoundland songs and enjoy a cold brew. Her laughter was simply contagious to all. She enjoyed travelling, visiting with her three sisters from Newfoundland and when they came up to visit, Mary went all out and they were so appreciative. Mary also enjoyed many fun times and years with her best friend Marina Raskob, both born on the same day Dec. 6th.

Our loving Mom, we now begin a life without you and we will miss and mourn you dearly for our lives will be forever changed.  Heaven has prepared your next home. Go in peace our loving mother!  Thank you!  We will always love and cherish you all our remaining days. Mother, finally you have now reached the Green Green Grass of Home!
