March 19, 1955 - December 20, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Joë surrounded by his loving family at the Sault Area Hospital, at the age of 66. Beloved son of the late Isidro and late Juana Iturregui. Loving father of Samantha Iturregui (Matt Jacques), Joseph Iturregui (Elaina Parsons) and Derek Doucet (Erica Chellew). Proud Aitxitxe of Jakson and Makenzie Iturregui-Jacques and Nigel and Roxanna Chellew Doucet. Joë is loved and will be deeply missed by his brothers Joseph (Irene) and Carlos (Marie-Anne). Predeceased by his treasured sister Jeanne Gabcan (Steve, predeceased). Dear uncle of Vince Iturregui (Lynn), Crystal Serré (Paul), Daniel Gabcan, Amaya Gabcan (Cody Boissoneau), Zackary Beaudoin (Quinton Cruickshanks), Ariana Iturregui, Donna Barnes and Sheila Best (Kyle). Fondly remembered by his former spouse Rita Iturregui, his great nieces and nephews as well as many good friends. Joë leaves behind numerous family members in the Basque Country of Northern Spain.

Joë loved to chase adventure and savoured the many trips on his beloved Harley from coast to coast in Canada and the U.S. He was an avid hunter and angler. Joë thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors; a love he shared with his children and grandchildren alike. He could always be counted on to provide a cold one and many laughs to those who passed by his garage. Gifted with a quick wit and wry smile, his sarcastic sense of humour was legendary and will be sorely missed by those who knew him. Joë could build or fix anything and was always willing to provide expert advice, whether solicited or not… He was a devoted father, son, brother, aitxitxe, uncle and friend who was only a phone call away if needed.

A dedicated and loyal employee of McDougall Energy, Joë had a work ethic that was second to none. Having started in an entry level position in the fuel service industry, Joë worked his way through the ranks building a reputation for commitment to excellence, precision and creative solutions.

With a great sense of pride in his Basque heritage, Joë instilled the importance of family and honouring cultural traditions. His presence and guidance will be deeply missed. Beti maitatua.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Workman at NSHN-Blind River and Dr. Martel and the HPB Team at the Ottawa General Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion.

As per Joë’s wishes there will be no service at this time.

A dad is someone you never outgrow your need for.
