A kind and gentle man, a lover of history and geography has left our presence. It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Dave, on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Greater Niagara General Hospital in Niagara Falls.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 50 years, Melody, his daughter, Lisa; and his grandson, Eric.   In addition to his parents, Dave is pre-deceased by his sister, Rosemary and his brothers Allie, and Charles.

Dave was born in Glace Bay, Cape Breton to Margaret “Quinie” and Frederick “Freddie” Gouthro.  Like many Cape Bretoners, he moved to Ontario, to earn a living.  The love of his life, Melody (nee Mills) followed, but they returned "home" each summer to visit family and friends.  Although Dave's heart would always be in Cape Breton, he was always grateful to Ontario for providing him with a good living for his family.

An animal lover, Dave enjoyed the personalities and antics of many animals; from the many hours he spent at the farm where his daughter, Lisa, rode horses to the cats at home, and the dogs he met along life's journey.

Dave took great joy in his grandson Eric, who made him laugh often and of whom he was so proud.  He would often look after Eric when he was ill as a youngster and would always hide a secret smile when Eric would try to talk his way out of a child's version of 'trouble'.  As Eric grew older, the two of them shared a love of cars, with Eric spending countless hours asking "Papa Dave" about the various tools he used as well as helping him work on cars.

Relatives and friends will be received at BOCCHINFUSO FUNERAL HOME 2 Regent Street, Thorold on Sunday, September 24, 2023 from 2:00- 5:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 25, at ST. PATRICK’S CHURCH 31 Chestnut Street East, Merritton. If desired, donations in Dave’s memory to Wellspring Niagara or Hospice Niagara would be appreciated. Online condolences may be left at www.Bocchinfusofh.com

Dave, your work here is done, rest in peace.
