DUGDALE, Brian Colin

September 05, 1950 - March 24, 2023

With deep sadness we announce that Brian has passed away. Left to mourn are his wife, Yvonne (nee Froese), and his brother, Paul. Brian was born in Edmonton; he lived in many different cities moving from airbase to airbase wherever his father was stationed, the last being Halifax. Brian found a summer job at Kresge’s in Halifax. Although he did well in school he chose to forego university and accepted the position of a Manager Trainee at Kresge’s/Kmart. The training involved moving to different stores including: Toronto, Sarnia, Welland and eventually St. Catharines. The next store offered to Brian was in Kingston but he had met his future wife in St. Catharines and decided to put down roots there and declined the offer. They were married on Valentines Day 47 years ago.

Brian worked, downtown, at J.H. Raham’s for many years. He started the games dept. in the lower level until the business closed. Finding himself without work led him to open Phoenix Rising. He had the ability to study and analyze gaming trends and did well in his business. Brian worked in his own store for 25 years, enjoying his work until he retired in 2019. In all important aspects of his life - family, community and politics he had a great passion. Brian was a quiet, soft spoken compassionate man who was strong in his convictions and ready to defend them. Yet he believed that every person should be treated with respect and should be heard even though they may share differing viewpoints.

Our hearts are breaking for his smile. We will miss his humour, quick wit, kindness and passion for life.

Thank you to the team of many caregivers, nurses and doctors involved in his care.

In honouring Brian’s wishes cremation has taken place followed by a private family graveside service at Wahta Cemetery at a later date. A Celebration of Life will be held from 2-4 pm on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at Merritton Community Centre, 7 Park Street. Please dress casually as Brian did not like making a fuss.

Memorial donations to Steve Ludzik Foundation would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Considerate Cremation & Burial Services, 26 Nihan Drive, St. Catharines (between Lake Street & Scott Street), 289-362-1144. Online condolences may be made at
