Clemente Conte

November 27, 1931 – November 9, 2023

CONTE, Clemente was born in Castropignano, Italy on November 27, 1931, to Antonio and Berenicia Conte. He immigrated to Canada in July of 1951 where he arrived at Pier 21 in Halifax. He travelled to Toronto and after a short stay with relatives, he moved to Thorold to marry the love of his life, Maria.

Clemente was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church for over six decades. He was a committee member of the Feast of the Assumption and a regular volunteer for Pasta Night and Bingo. Clemente Conte retired from Noranda Forest Recycled Papers (formerly Fraser Inc.) after completing 38 years of dedicated service. He was well-respected and loved by family and friends. Throughout his life, he maintained the traditions of his Italian roots like gardening, wine-making and canning tomatoes while embracing the Canadian culture in particular hockey, as he was an avid Maple Leafs fan.

Our loving God took his faithful servant Clemente Conte on Thursday, November 9, 2023, in his 92nd year at the Cortellucci / Vaughan Hospital in Maple, Ontario. Beloved husband of the late Maria Conte (nee Maddalena), for 66 years. Beloved father of Bernice Giancola (the late Gino Giancola) and Tony Conte. Loving nonno to Michael and Maria-Christina Giancola (Brendan Stuart-Hagge). Loving great-grandfather to Vienna Stuart-Hagge. Survived by sister Maria (the late Salvatore Zangari) and step-sister Teresa D’Onofrio (the late Nicola). Predeceased by sisters Donata (Nicola D’Alesandro), Giovannina (Camillo Petti), Grazia (Angelo Pizzacalla), and brother Joe (Pasquala Conte). Clemente will be sadly missed by his brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws especially Filomena (the late Assuntino Bozza), the late Nancy (Wallace Gordon), the late Joanne and late Gino Marchionda and the late Lucy Scobie. Uncle Clem will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and Godchildren. A special thank you to all the staff at Mackenzie Health / Cortellucci / Vaughan Hospital.
