It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carina on September 4th after a brief illness.  She was born November 26, 1931 and was in her 92nd year.  Carina was a devoted and generous mother, Nonna and aunt. She was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Parish in Thorold.  Carina is predeceased by her husband Mario (1983) and will deeply be missed by her children Laurie (Jim), Robert (Lorna), Ron (Debbie); grandchildren Reg (Jackson) Rick (Natalie), Jillian (Tony), James (Sara), Marissa (Shannon), Ryan (Stacy), Meghan and Connor;  great grandchildren Brenna, Henry, Maeve, Mataya, Reign, Lilli, Ryder, Jacoby, Grayson, Ivy, Leo, Fia, Bianca and Stella; her brother John (Diane) and brother-in-law Giovanni. She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada and Italy.

Carina was also predeceased by her parents Antonio and Giuseppina, her sister Maria, brother Salvatore and his wife Shirley, brother-in-law Marino and his wife Shirley and sister-in-law Irene.

Carina helped found Cecchini Masonry Ltd. with her late husband Mario, was a retired secretary of London Life, and a dedicated long-time treasurer of Club Sardegna nel Niagara. She was a 50-year member of the Catholic Women’s League and belonged to the Thorold Seniors bowling league for many years.

Mom was a very busy person always tending to her home, pool and gardens. She was very involved with community activities such as Folk Arts and the Grape and Wine parade and her beloved Club Sardegna. She could thoroughly plan any social event with ease.  Mom played basketball in her youth and had a lifelong love of exercise. She stayed fit and strong and continued to use her treadmill every day until she was 90 years old.

Our mother was a very talented lady. She had a sharp mind and enjoyed helping in her family business.  She was also an excellent cook and could prepare a delicious buffet in a few hours. Holidays will never be the same without her famous cappelletti soup and her infectious laugh.   Mom dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and always made sure that they had a fun summer in her pool and gave them memorable Christmases and birthdays.

Mom was the force behind our family and instilled in us a belief to work hard and never give up. She was fiercely independent to the end.

Relatives and friends will be received at BOCCHINFUSO FUNERAL HOME 2 Regent Street, Thorold on Thursday, September 7, 2023 from 2:00 -4:00 and 7:00 -9:00 PM.  Vigil prayers will be recited at 3:30 PM.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at OUR LADY OF THE HOLY ROSARY CHURCH 21 Queen Street South, Thorold on Friday at 11 :00 AM.  Rite of Committal Pleasantview Memorial Gardens.

Our family would like to give thanks to Dr. Jeremy Child who went above and beyond to care for our mother. Thanks also to caregivers Trish, Dani, Kayelyn, Ekta, Meg V. and Mandy and the wonderful doctors, nurses and PSW’s at Welland Hospital.
