New members, including Appeal Court judge, appointed to judicial committee

New members have been appointed to a committee that assesses prospective Superior Court judges.

Lawyers Margaret Wente and Robert Shawyer were named earlier this month to the Independent Judicial Advisory Committee for Ontario, Greater Toronto Area.

They were nominated by the Law Society of Ontario and the Attorney General of Ontario, respectively.

Justice Benjamin Zarnett of the Court of Appeal for Ontario has also been appointed to the committee following a nomination from the Chief Justice of Ontario.

All are set to serve a two-year term ending on May 1, 2023.

Several existing members of the committee have also seen their posts renewed.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published May 19, 2021.
