Rain washes out Jackfish and Maple Leafs

Mother Nature didn’t want the Toronto Maple Leafs and Welland Jackfish to play at Welland Stadium Saturday.

The rain postponed the game and a new date will be announced.

Baycats fire up offence with win over Majors

Noel McGarry-Doyle had four hits, including a home run as the Barrie Baycats defeated the London Majors 9-4 Saturday during Intercounty Baseball League action at Vintage Throne Stadium. Malik Williams also had a big day at the plate with four RBI, including a two-run homer in the first inning.

Eduardo De Oleo led the Majors offence with a double and a home run, including three RBI. Austin Wilkie also had a home run for the Majors.

Baycats starter Frank Garces went the distance, striking out seven. Jordan Schulefand was tagged with the loss.

The Baycats are 20-10 and host the Guelph Royals at 3:05 p.m. Sunday. The Majors 9-19, visit the Kitchener Panthers Sunday at 5:15 p.m.

Royals pitching stymie Cards

The Guelph Royals allowed only one run on three hits in a 6-1 win over the Hamilton Cardinals Saturday during Intercounty Baseball League action at David E. Hastings Stadium.

While Yomar Concepcion got credit for the win for his work in the seventh inning, starter Claudio Custodio was brilliant in six innings of work. He gave up one run on two hits, striking out 10. Jared Kennedy cleaned things up to get the save.

Kody Butt took the loss, while Cardinals starter Nik Cardinal had seven strikeouts in seven innings of work.

J.D. Williams led the Royals offence with two hits and three RBI. Malik Collymore had three hits, while Chris Robinson and Conner Morro had a pair each.

Dennis Dei Baning, Luis Bernardo, and Tanner Rempel recorded the only Cardinals hits.

The Royals improve to 13-18 and visit the Barrie Baycats Sunday at 3:05 p.m. The Cardinals are 15-16 and visit the Toronto Maple LEafs at 2 p.m. Sunday.
