Batter up! Baseball season is back in Niagara.

The men’s Niagara District Baseball Association is set to kick off this week, with opening day on Friday, May 10. Defending champions, the Beamsville Yellow Jackets, will host the Niagara Falls Expos at Beamsville Lions Park. First pitch is 7:30.

Next week will see the rest of the league get in on the action, with four games throughout the week. It begins with the Welland Pioneers hosting the Thorold Anchors on Monday, May 13, at Welland Stadium.

On Wednesday, May 15, the Merritton Alliance will head down to Fort Erie to play the Cannons at Oakes Park.

The following day, Thursday, May 16, Beamsville plays its second game, taking on the St. Catharines Cobras at George Taylor Field in Merritton.

Next week’s games wrap up with the Cannons and Expos playing in Niagara Falls at Oakes Park.

All games start at 7:30 p.m.

Each team will play a 24-game schedule this year, splitting two home and two away games against each opponent in the NDBA. The season runs from May to mid-August.

Playoffs begin in September, following the annual OBA tournaments. Long held on Labour Day weekend, this year the men’s division tournaments will be moved up to the weekend before Labour Day, running Aug. 23 to 25.

Thorold will once again host one of the OBA tournaments, welcoming A division teams for the second year in a row.

Also of note this year: The Niagara Falls Expos will be hosting its annual Bruno LeBlanc Memorial Tournament, from July 19-21.
