Steven Moretto’s hot bat led the Welland Jackfish to a 12-5 win over the London Majors at Welland Stadium during Intercounty Baseball League action Saturday night.

Moretto started the night with a two-run home run in the first inning, added an RBI double in the seventh, and finished the game with an RBI single to left field in the ninth to lead the way.

The two teams went back and forth, exchanging the lead until the Jackfish scored five in the eighth inning to pull away.

Andrew Lawrence had three hits and an RBI for the Majors, while Starling Joseph had two hits and two RBI.

Ben Abrams picked up the win pitching four innings and striking out five. Owen Boon pitched seven innings for the Majors, striking out seven, despite being tagged with the loss.

The Jackfish extended its winning streak to nine and are 23-6. Tuesday they visit the Guelph Royals at 7:30 p.m. The Majors are 8-16 and visit the Kitchener Panthers Sunday at 5:15 p.m.

Baycats beat Panthers

The Barrie Baycats defeated the Kitchener Panthers 4-3 at home Saturday.

No details of the game are available.

A Royal walk off

The Guelph Royals had a 3-2 walk off win over the Toronto Maple Leafs in wild fashion Saturday during Intercounty Baseball League action at David E. Hastings Stadium.

Noah Roberts scored on a wild pitch from third base in the bottom of the 10th inning to take home the win. Chris Robinson sent the game into extras thanks to his two-run double in the sixth inning to tie things up.

The Maple Leafs scored via a wild pitch in the second inning and a bases loaded walk in the fourth. Garrett Takamatsu led the Maple leafs with two hits and one RBI.

Brandon Deans earned the win on the mound. He gave up no runs on one hit in five innings of work. Starter Hector Yan struck out nine and gave up two runs on three hits in four innings.

Evan Elliott was tagged with the loss. Maple leafs starter Wilgenis Alvarado also had a great outing giving up two runs on two hits in six innings of work.

The Royals are now 10-17 and visit the Hamilton Cardinals Sunday at 2:05 p.m. The Maple Leafs are 13-14 and host the Brantford Red Sox at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Red Sox clip Cardinals

The Brantford Red Sox scored four times in the fifth inning and five times in the six en route to a 10-6 win over the Hamilton Cardinals Saturday during Intercounty Baseball League action at Arnold Anderson Stadium Saturday.

The Red Sox chipped away with Gus Wilson leading the way with three hits and an RBI. Kieran Bowles had two hits and two RBI, while Lucas Bateman also had a pair of hits.

Charlie Towers had one hit and two RBI for the Cardinals, and Luis Pimentel-Guerrero had a pair of hits.

Red Sox starter Danny Howat got the win, giving up two runs and striking out four. Luis Bernardo was tagged with the loss.

The Red Sox are now 6-23 and visit the Toronto Maple Leafs Sunday at 2 p.m. The Cardinals, now 14-13 host the Guelph Royals Sunday at 2:05 p.m.
