Jackfish extend winning streak to 13 games

On the strength of a 10-run eighth inning, the Welland Jackfish defeated the Brantford Red Sox 19-7 during Intercounty Baseball League action at Arnold Anderson Stadium Friday.

Down by a pair heading into the eighth, the Jackfish scored 10 runs on three hits and four Red Sox errors. Gianfranco Morello and McCoy Pearce had RBI single, while Matteo Porcellato had a three-run triple.

The Jackfish were able to scatter 13 hits, with James Smibert blasting a solo home run in the top of the first inning.

The Red Sox had 14 hits, including Evan Ryan’s solo homer in the seventh inning.Gus Wilson had three hits.

Chris Boatto got the win on the mound. He struck out five in two innings of work. While Gabe Bruder was tagged with the loss.

The Jackfish (13-2) have now won 13 in a row and host the Barrie Baycats Saturday at 6:05 p.m. The Red Sox are now 2-13 and host the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday at 8 p.m.

Cardinals edge Majors

Clayton Keyes' double to centre field, that drove in three runs proved to be enough to give the Hamilton Cardinals a 8-7 win over the London Majors at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium during Intercounty Baseball League action Friday.

Keyes’ three-run double was the cushion the Cardinals needed after the Majors got a solo home run from Myles Miller and a two-run homer by Josh Williams in the top half of the ninth.

Tyler Duncan also had a big night at the plate, belting a three-run homer in the first inning to give the Cardinals the early lead.

Duncan McLaughlin ended up with the win on the mound. Starter Logan Walters struck out seven, only giving up two runs on four hits in six innings of work. Owen Boon took the loss despite eight strikeouts in seven innings of work.

The Cardinals improve to 10-7 and host the Brantford Red Sox Sunday at 2:05 p.m. The Majors drop to 4-10 and visit the Guelph Royals Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
