Jackfish down Guelph Royals

Welland makes it 11 wins in a row

Good teams find ways to win.

The old adage held true in front of a Welland Jackfish record crowd of 2,675 fans Sunday afternoon at The Pond, as the home side crowned the Guelph Royals 5-3 for their 11th straight victory.

The Jackfish celebrated Father's Day with their latest win despite managing just five hits.

"Ya, it wasn't the prettiest performance but good teams do find ways to win, when not at their best, and that was us today," explained Welland Manager Brian Essery.

St. Catharines native Tyler Dupuis went 2-for-2 at the dish and scored a run for the Fish, while Hogan Brown upped his season average to .489 going 1-for-2 with a pair of walks.

Chris Boatto picked up his second straight win pitching a perfect two innings of relief for starter Adam Jafine.

"Boatto was tremendous out of the pen today, as were our other two relievers (Casey) Howard and (Deivy) Mendez," Essery said.
"At the end of the day a win is a win."

Mendez picked up his fifth save of the season, and continues to maintain a 0.00 ERA in eight appearances here in 2023.

Welland hosts the Hamilton Cardinals Thursday night in a 7:25 first pitch. It's Double First-Name Night, as anyone with two first names—for example, “Steve James”—gets in free.
