Three-run homer leads Jackfish over Panthers

A three-run home run from Hogan Brown led the Welland Jackfish to a 7-4 win over the Kitchener Panthers Sunday during Intercounty Baseball League action at Jack Couch Park.

Brown’s three-run blast was part of a four-run inning. In the ninth inning, they added two more runs for insurance. James Smibert, Caleb Feuerstake, Ethan Hunt, and Brown all had two hits.

lake Jacklin had two hits for the Panthers.

Adam Jafine had four strikeouts over five innings of work to get the win. Jacob Douglas was tagged with the loss. He had five strikeouts in seven innings of work.

The Jackfish improved to 18-6 and visit the London Majors Tuesday at 7:35 p.m. The Panthers dropped to 13-10 and host the Hamilton Cardinals Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Big third inning leads Majors over Guelph

A three-run second inning led the London Majors to a 4-1 win over the Guelph Royals during Intercounty Baseball League action at Labatt Park.

Keith Kandel hit a two-run single, while Tommy Reyes-Cruz had an RBI single in the big second inning, before the Majors added another run in the sixth.

Kyle Kush hit a ground rule double in the seventh inning to score the Royals’ only run.

Majors starter Owen Boon was fantastic on the mound, striking out 11 in eight innings of work to get the win, with Braeden Ferrington picking up the save. Despite a great 10 strikeout, three hit effort, Hector Yan was tagged with the loss.

The Majors improve to 8-12 and host the Welland Jackfish Tuesday at 7:35 p.m. The Royals drop to 7-14 and visit the Jackfish Thursday at 7:25 p.m.

Hodges grand slam leads Maple Leafs

Jesse Hodges hit a grand slam in the first inning to lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 8-4 win over the Hamilton Cardinals during INtercounty Baseball League action Sunday at Dominico Field at Christie Pits.

Aidan McAskie and Ryan Burnside had two hits for the Maple Leafs.

Clayton Keyes led the way with two hits and two RBI, including a home run, while Tyler Duncan also hit a homer.

Maple Leafs starter Daniel Procopio was strong on the mound, striking out 13 in five innings to get the win. Colby Ring was credited with the loss.

The Maple Leafs improve to 13-10 and visit the Brantford Red Sox Monday at 8 p.m. The Cardinals also have a 13-10 record and visit the Kitchener Panthers Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Red Sox win a slugfest

The Brantford Red Sox scored 20 times on 23 hits to defeat the Barrie Baycats 20-15 Sunday during Intercounty Baseball League action at Arnold Anderson Stadium.

Gus Wilson led the Red Sox offence with four hits and three RBI, while Matthew Fabian had four hits and two RBI. Jeremie Veilleux, Roger Keen, and Jesse Fishbaum each had two hits and three RBI.

Adam Odd led the Baycats’ offence with three hits, three RBI thanks to a three-run home run in the first inning. Noel McGarry-Doyle had three hits and three RBI.
Aidan Armitage earned the win on the mound, while Evan Soules took the loss.

The Red Sox improve to 3-20 and host the Toronto Maple Leafs Monday at 8 p.m. The Baycats are now 14-7 and visit the Toronto Maple Leafs Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
