Moretto’s grand slam highlights Jackfish win over Majors
Steven Moretto blasted a grand slam in the third inning to lift the Welland Jackfish to a 12-5 win over the London Majors during Intercounty Baseball League action Wednesday night at Labatt Park.
Moretto’s grand slam came after a Carlos Martinez single scored Matteo Porcellato for a five-run third inning. The Jackfish had 13 hits from eight different players. Porcellato had four of those hits to set the table for his teammates.
Eduardo De Oleo led the Majors’ offence with two of his team’s five hits, including a three-run homer in the fifth inning.
Jake Harford got the win on the mound. He had five strikeouts in six innings of work, giving up three runs on only two hits. Edisson Gonzalez took the loss.
The first-place Jackfish are 21-6 and host the Kitchener Panthers at 7:25 Thursday. The Majors drop to 8-14 and host the Barrie Baycats Friday at 7:35 p.m.
