Welland man spends a buck and takes home $100,000

Joshua Kurucz of Welland plans to bank his winnings for now and perhaps buy a fishing boat
Joshua Kurucz of Welland won $100,000.

Saying “yes” to Encore paid off for Joshua Kurucz of Welland. He matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in exact order in the Jan. 27 Ontario 49 draw to win $100,000.

Kurucz, 31, says he plays the lottery on and off and usually switches between Ontario 49 and Lotto 6/49. "I scanned my ticket on the OLG app and I had to wait to drive home until the shock wore off," he shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings. "I told my mom, and she couldn't believe it – she was so excited!"

Joshua says this win feels good and he is thinking of buying a boat to go fishing. "I will put this win in the bank and save it for now," he concluded.

Encore offers 22 ways to win and can be played in conjunction with most lottery games for an extra $1. There is an Encore draw every day.

The winning ticket was purchased at Shell on Highway 69 in Pointe Au Baril.
