St. Lawrence Seaway employees probably don’t spend a lot of time looking down as they walk a thin line – or planks as the case might be – from scaffolding while performing winter maintenance to Lock 7 of the currently shuttered-for-the-season Welland Canal.
According to signs posted at the Peter St. Bridge, the Welland Canal Parkway is scheduled to be closed for the entire month of February, while another sign indicated a two-day shut-down is now underway from Feb. 12-14.
Although the road was still passable Monday morning, would-be commuters who use the Parkway might want to find another to or from Thorold for the next few days as heavy equipment is expected to block the road as additional winter maintenance is carried out by the Seaway Authority.
